The Garden Media Guild Awards celebrate the best in garden writing - including books, newspapers and magazines - photography, broadcasting - TV and radio - and new media - including gardening websites and gardening blogs. They are the garden media 'Oscars'. From 2010, Colour your Life and the Garden Media Guild are teaming up to offer a new special award to encourage it's 450 membership of writers and broadcasters to promote the 'real value' of plants and green space. Writers or broadcasters focussing on what plants do to improve our quality of life in every way and how they are one of the key ways of bringing social and environmental benefits will qualify to be considered for the award. Plus this year Colour your Life sponsored the News Story of the Year Journalism Award won by Carol Warters for her article Grow Plea to World Leaders in Garden News. The article reported on a seed companies efforts at this years G20 summit to urge World leaders to encourage schools, factories, offices, homes, hospitals and public offices to join in and 'get the world growing again'. The stunt certainly got the companies noticed as Prime Minister Gordon Brown wrote them an immediate thank you for their initiative! Congratulations to Carol Warters for winning the award. GOOD LUCK TO ALL WRITERS AND BROADCASTERS ENTERING THE NEW SPECIAL AWARD FOR 2010. It will be great to see the real value of plants and green space getting more column inches and air time throughout the year. |
