Trees and shrubs are problem solvers. Research revealed recently that even small quantities can reduce the particulate load in air. Based on computer modelling of a 1km square in Woudenberg, Holland, researchers from the Triple ‘E’ consultancy have released some very interesting information. The bottom line is 3% cover of shrubs and small trees removes 10% of the particulate load in the air. The next step will be to investigate how much planting would be needed to render the A12 (main route from Germany to The Hague) free of particulates. |
