Chelsea visitors love Green City ‘Future Nature’ Crowds three and four people deep were thronging to see the silver-gilt medal winning ‘Future Nature’ show garden co-sponsored by the Green City initiative. With pole position along the main avenue of big show gardens, the ‘Future Nature’ exhibit inspired and enthused Chelsea visitors about what they can do in their gardens to help the environment and combat climate change. ‘Future Nature’ used the beauty and richness of plants to point the way to gardens becoming not only places for relaxation and recreation but also essential life-saving and environment-enhancing elements in our towns and cities.
‘It was all hands on deck at the garden to get the information out to the crowd fast enough. People loved the innovative features of the garden and really got the Green City message that plants bring multi-functional benefits to our lives,’ says Amanda Long, National Representative for the Green City initiative, who co-sponsored the garden. Celebrities, including household favourite Alan Titchmarsh flocked to the garden – giving it prime time TV coverage and showcasing the extra benefits plants bring to society.
Providing ideas for gardens anywhere – from small, constrained urban gardens, roof terraces or yards to offices and public spaces - ‘Future Nature’ highlighted how gardens can help alleviate flooding and conserve water, plus bring other environmental benefits such as attracting insects and wildlife. Catching the imagination of thousands of visitors at the show throughout the week, the message that ‘Future Nature’ is a very real garden with something for everyone is certainly came across.
